Douglas (formerly a trainee, assistant and associate with MMS from 1999 until 2009) rejoined the firm in January 2012 as a partner in the Commercial Dispute Resolution department, based in the Glasgow office. He has a great deal of experience in dealing with all manner of general commercial disputes in both the Sheriff Court and the Court of Session on behalf of both domestic and foreign clients. Douglas also has considerable experience of managing foreign litigations on behalf of domestic clients.

Douglas is frequently instructed in connection with corporate disputes (particularly contractual disputes, warranty claims, frauds, shareholder disputes and title issues). Douglas also specialises in dealing with corporate and personal insolvencies and internal regulatory matters for professional bodies and supervises our Debt Recovery department in Glasgow.

Public law also forms a noteworthy part of Douglas’s practice – and he has significant experience of pursuing judicial review proceedings (particularly in respect of public procurement issues) against public bodies.

Additionally, Douglas has an avid interest in Sports Law and has most recently successfully defended a substantial claim by a former coach on behalf of one of the oldest Rugby Clubs in Scotland. Douglas is an SFA certified football referee and a founder member of the Sports Law Practice Group of Lex Mundi – the world’s largest independent organisation of leading law firms.

Douglas is also the vice convenor of the Strathclyde University Ethics Committee and a member of the lay advisory board of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow.
