Aberdeen Sports Village, the award-winning facility created by University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen City Council and sportscotland, has appointed Maclay Murray & Spens (MMS) as its new legal advisers. The contract was awarded following a competitive tender, which included some five local and Scotland-wide firms.
MMS’ 30-strong Aberdeen office will provide legal services to the Village across a number of areas, including property, construction and leasing, charity, competition, contract, employment and health & safety.
A £22m state-of-the-art Aquatic Centre, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool, is set to be built on the Sports Village site and due to be ready in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. It is hoped the Village will play host to international teams using the state-of-the-art community facilities as a training base, ahead of the Games.
Commenting on the appointment, Fraser Leslie, partner and head of property in MMS’ Aberdeen office, said: “This is a fantastic accolade for our team and we are proud to support Aberdeen Sports Village during the next phase of its development. Over the past nine years, MMS has successfully built a strong local team, with a wide range of expertise and experience to support clients’ diverse legal requirements and the appointment is a testament to this success.”
David Beattie, chief executive of Aberdeen Sports Village, added: “We are firmly on track to create one of the most advanced aquatic facilities in the UK. The time is now right to secure the support of some of the best legal expertise in the city, with a track record in the development and management of leisure and sports facilities and we are delighted to have MMS on our team.”
Aberdeen Sports Village first opened in 2009 and has quickly become a focal point for community-based and regional sporting activities.
