Why did you apply for a summer internship at MMS?
I applied to MMS as I wanted to get an idea of what working within a commercial law firm was like.

What type of work did you get involved in during your internship?
I was placed in the Commercial Dispute Resolution Practice Group and got involved in a great variety of work. I completed several interesting research tasks including defamation, freedom of information and duties of insurance companies. I also attended client meetings and court proceedings, and drafted a letter of instruction.

On top of getting involved in department work, various trips, training and social events were organised for the summer interns. For example, we attended an Insights workshop and visited the office of Millar & Bryce in Edinburgh. During our second week, the trainees took us out to Escape Rooms and I am proud to say that my group beat the challenge while our competitors remained stuck in their room.

What did you enjoy most about your internship?
There were so many highlights during my 3 week internship. The two tasks I enjoyed most were researching the application of ‘inherently hazardous’ and drafting a letter of instruction. I also enjoyed the social side of the internship. I was welcomed by everyone both in my Practice Group and beyond.

Why did you decide to accept the offer of a training contract?
I felt truly welcome within the firm during my internship. Although I was only there for a short period of time, I began to feel that MMS was the right firm for me.

What will you do between now and your start date?
I am about to start my Diploma year at Edinburgh University. I will also be working part-time and may be appearing in a musical at The Kings Theatre.
