Maclay Murray & Spens LLP is one of the leading Scottish headquartered commercial law firms. The firm operates from offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London.

The Finance Department performs a number of functions on behalf of the firm including billing, cash management, credit control, purchase ledger and numerous other tasks associated with running a business. In addition, it manages client funds and processes transactions to client ledgers.

The Finance Manager will be accountable for the day-to-day running of the firm's finance operations, including firm and client transactions (nb - this role does not cover Partnership or Statutory accounting/tax nor management accounting). Based in Glasgow, the post holder will report to our Director of Finance and will be responsible for leading and managing a team of 20.

Key tasks within this role will include business process re-engineering, including maximisation of technological efficiencies, and examining service provision to the fee earning departments with particular reference to documentation and training of both the Finance Team and our fee earners. The Finance Manager will also be required to ensure that processes keep pace with the expected growth of the firm and will be actively involved in any future acquisitions.

The successful candidate will be a CCAB qualified accountant, ideally from a Big Four firm. You should also have a background in a law firm or other professional time recording environment and it may be that this is your first move into a commercial role. Excellent people management and leadership skills are required, as are first-class communication and interpersonal skills. This role will involve occasional travel to other sites.
