John is a Solicitor in the pensions law team and has a base in both our Edinburgh and Glasgow offices. He joined the firm in January 2016.
John was for some 15 years – before becoming a pensions lawyer – first a technical adviser with a pension provider and then an independent financial adviser, having built (and later sold) a specialist independent financial adviser business.
John is a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers and is a Diploma Member of the Pensions Management Institute (DipPMI). John also holds the Chartered Insurance Institute's Financial Planning Certificate, Advanced Financial Planning Certificate, Accreditation in Pensions (G60) and is an Associate of the Personal Finance Society (APFS) - the qualification required for registration as a Chartered Financial Planner.
John works closely with our financial services, corporate, tax and employment teams and provides a full range of pension law advice to employers and trustees. He also acts for the Educational Institute of Scotland in the provision of pension law advice to its members.
John understands the need to find pragmatic solutions to the often complex problems faced by the many national companies who he advises and believes that clear and transparent communication with clients is essential.
