   Ian Lumsden

Ian is a partner in the Corporate Department of Maclay Murray & Spens. His principal area of practice is corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions. He has been actively involved in some of Scotland's most eventful takeover battles in the last 25 years including acting for House of Fraser and SUITS in relation to various bids by Lonrho and Monopolies Commission references and then the eventual takeover of House of Fraser by the Al Fayeds; acting for Coats Patons plc in relation to their proposed acquisition by Dawson International and the subsequent acquisition by Vantona Viyella, and acting for Macallan Glenlivet plc in their acquisition by Highland Distillers. His work includes advising plcs and private companies on all corporate matters including floatations, fundraisings, reorganisations, acquisitions and disposals and corporate governance. Recent specific examples include advising The Weir Group plc on the disposal of the desalination and water treatment business of its Techna Division for £27.7m and of Flowguard Limited for £2.9m; advising House of Fraser plc in its acquisition of Jenners and advising on a number of investment trust reconstructions.
